IP education is one of the most promising in the 21st century

The team of the Intellectual Property Academy department of the IP office will hold a series of conversations with scientific and pedagogical workers who ensure the acquisition of high-quality IP education in Ukraine. The project “Your Step to Knowledge: Educational Programs on Intellectual Property” was attended by Nataliya Petrivna Korogod, Candidate of Pedagogical Sciences, Professor of the Department of Intellectual Property and Project Management of the Dnipro Metallurgical Institute of the Ukrainian State University of Science and Technology, Guarantor of the Intellectual Property Educational Program.

Nataliya Petrivna, during the conversation, noted that today information and knowledge are becoming the main means and subject of social production, forming a global strategy according to which products of intellectual labor are bought and sold. In the modern conditions of international economic integration, intellectual property rights (such as inventions, trademarks, industrial designs, know-how, computer programs, databases, works of literature and art, etc.) ensure competitiveness and provide additional profit to the enterprise. Therefore, competent specialists in this field are extremely necessary for any organizations and enterprises of all industries without exception.

It has been proven that intellectual property is currently one of the most prestigious and promising specialties of the 21st century worldwide. The relevance of the profession is determined by the following factors:

- the growing importance of intellectual property for the development of the economy of any civilized country;

- the obvious lack of specialists in the field of intellectual property on the labor market;

- the desire of our state to join the European Economic Community and the dynamic growth of international cooperation of Ukraine.

The rapid development of artificial intelligence technologies is also closely related to the field of intellectual property.

Natalia Petrivna noted that during their studies, students of the Department of Intellectual Property and Project Management have the opportunity to lead an active student life, participate in the scientific work of the department (the All-Ukrainian Olympiad and the All-Ukrainian Competition of Student Scientific Papers on Intellectual Property, international and all-Ukrainian conferences, etc.). Together with the teachers of the department, joining in scientific and inventive work, students work on the creation of IP objects, some of them become co-authors of inventions.

For the purpose of future professional employment, meetings are organized with representatives of institutions and enterprises - future employers. Students have the opportunity to undergo pre-graduate practice at well-known enterprises specializing in the field of intellectual property. Students of the department have the opportunity to get acquainted with advanced international experience in the field of intellectual property and innovation, which is implemented by leading lecturers-researchers of the department, through participation in international projects and internships.

In particular, Nataliya Petrovna personally had the opportunity to participate in the international project INNOVALUENET and the international forum “Partnership for Innovation and Socio-Economic Impact: Entrepreneurial University” (European Commission, Royal Institute of Technology, Stockholm, Sweden).

As well as an internship at the scientific organization Scientific Visual SA (Switzerland), which has achieved significant development due to the effective creation and operation of scientific startups, the transfer of innovative technologies in cooperation with the well-known in Switzerland and the world polytechnic institution of higher education EPFL.

Based on the results of such experience, educational materials and the content of scientific activity are modernized and improved, which are used and developed by students. In particular, during the execution of course and final master's theses.

An indisputable fact and challenge of modern economic and technological development, in particular in the IP sphere, is the understanding that material resources are becoming limited. While the creative and intellectual (mental) resources of humanity remain unlimited. And it is precisely work with these intangible resources that will always be a priority. This is evidenced by the rapid development of scientific, technical and innovative activity, the results of which, presented in the form of intellectual property, require reliable protection and defense of rights.

Therefore, students choose among the relevant areas of study those that are related to intellectual property law, acquisition, disposal and protection of intellectual property rights. Considering the other side of intellectual property (as intellectual capital and intangible assets that create competitive advantages for modern enterprises in the market of innovative products), disciplines on the economics and marketing of intellectual property, intellectual property management and innovative activities acquire special significance.

During their studies, students should choose disciplines that they will be interested in studying. The most popular elective disciplines for our students are:

- “Modeling of intellectual property commercialization processes”;

- “Internet and intellectual property law”;

- “Technology transfer”;

- “International intellectual property law”;

- “Intellectual security of the enterprise” and others.

It is extremely important for students to develop the ability to apply the knowledge and skills acquired in the process of theoretical, practical and scientific training in the master's degree in their further professional activities: when solving practical tasks in the field of intellectual property and conducting research in the IP system.

Nataliya Petrovna believes that the development of such traits as readiness to perceive changes and innovations will help in the formation of students' professional personality. After all, it is the ability to effectively create modern knowledge and convey it to consumers that is the basis for a new generation of highly qualified specialists in the field of intellectual property. Such specialists will be able to quickly adapt to changing market requirements and innovative transformations.

After graduating from the master's degree in the educational and professional program "Intellectual Property", graduates have the opportunity to work at enterprises of all industries:

                                                                                                                                                                           (IP office)
